West Village Loft
This loft renovation is tailored to support the lifestyle of a Manhattan professional couple—a news commentator and a professional artist—in both their private and professional lives. Located in a former warehouse building, the original space presented NMA with the challenge of creating an urban home that functions efficiently as a place for research and creative work yet also supports relaxation and privacy. The outcome highlights our firm’s signature ability to create spaces that serve multiple purposes efficiently, beautifully, and comfortably.
The renovated space is contemporary yet rustic, juxtaposing minimalist custom teak millwork with rugged recycled materials and exposed structural timbers, some with painted markings dating from the building’s warehouse days.
Furnishings are a mix of New England antique-market finds and contemporary pieces by Eames Design, Holly Hunt, Florence Knoll, and a number of Brooklyn- and western Massachusetts-based artists. The lighting contemporary, artsy, and eclectic heightened in effect by ceilings coated in high-gloss paint.
