West Village Garden Terrace Apartment
A collaboration of NMA with the landscape architecture firm, Hollander design, this Manhattan apartment renovation pairs a refined interior with an expansive outdoor retreat in a tandem design that enriches both environments. NMA’s work embraces the “white box” theme of the existing interior, retaining its light-colored walls and whitewashed wood flooring while introducing warmth and character with a curated selection of furniture, textiles, artwork, and lighting. Antique rugs add color to every room and subtly define function areas in the open plan living, dining, and kitchen space. Oversize windows and doors open onto the multilevel terrace, a lush, green gardenscape with broad views of the Hudson River beyond. The terrace is furnished as a sequence of outdoor “rooms,” with relaxed seating arrangements, an understated teak dining set, and a custom stainless-steel cooking grill with a galaxy schist stone countertop.
